Special Handling
Keeping Our Crew and Community Safe
We all share the goal of keeping our beautiful backyard clean, and most of the time, throwing things away is pretty straightforward. But some items need just a little extra care before they cross the scales.
When certain hazardous materials end up in the regular garbage, they can create real dangers for our hard-working landfill crew and our local environment. By taking an extra minute to separate these items, you're helping us keep everyone safe and our facility running smoothly.
Electronics and Batteries
Those hidden power sources in your everyday devices can easily spark dangerous, hard-to-fight fires if they get crushed or punctured by our heavy equipment.
If you are tossing out an old phone, laptop, power tool, or toy with a rechargeable battery, please pop the battery out first and sort it into our battery recycling.
Can't get the battery out? No worries at all. Just hand the intact device directly to one of our friendly attendants at the facility, and we will make sure it’s handled safely.
Needles and Sharps
For the safety of everyone handling waste, medical needles, syringes, and sharps absolutely cannot go into your regular trash bags. A single hidden needle is a massive safety hazard for our team.
Please take all needles and sharps directly to your nearest hospital or participating pharmacy in a proper sharps container for safe disposal.
Other Items
These everyday items also need to be separated from your household trash:
Propane Tanks & Pressurized Cylinders: Even if they feel completely empty to you, they are highly pressurized and can explode when compacted. Please hand these off to our team.
Leftover Paint & Chemicals: Solvents, old paint, fertilizers, and household cleaners can contaminate the soil and groundwater. Drop these off at our designated eco-station area.
Used Oil & Antifreeze: Just a small amount can cause major environmental damage. Please use our specialized drop-off tanks.
Tires: These take up massive amounts of space and can trap methane gas if buried. Let us know you have them so we can point you to the tire pile!
Thank You!
We know sorting takes a little extra time, and we really appreciate it.
If you are ever packing up the truck and aren't quite sure where a specific item belongs, just ask one of our staff members when you arrive. We are always happy to point you in the right direction!
